The coverage obligations imposed on the mobile operators only relate to outdoor coverage. Until now, coverage obligations have never been imposed indoors. This will not change in the future.
BIPT limits itself to providing information on the legislation (regarding repeaters), providing recommendations for better indoor coverage and recommending the minimum technical specifications for DAS (Distributed Antenna Systems) systems.
Main changes to the guidelines since 2019:
- A clear definition of the different parties involved: M-O DAS owner, promoter, contractor, operators and A.S.T.R.I.D. was added, along with the correct mention of each party throughout the documents.
- Specific requirements regarding A.S.T.R.I.D. indoor coverage were added throughout the documents.
- The inclusion of 5G technology was added throughout the documents.
- Alternative measures for improving indoor coverage were added, in particular increasing building transparency through the choice of materials during the design phase of the building or through adjustments to the glass façade during building commissioning.
- Additional emphasis is placed on the necessary maintenance of the DAS systems. A MODAS portal is also available for these DAS systems.
