In its opinion, the BIPT supports the present draft Royal Decree that regulates the transfer of the contact details of the legal representative, the designated establishment or the coordination cell to the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT).

Said Royal Decree is intended to implement the draft bill transposing the e-evidence Directive (EU 2023/1544), as approved by the Council of Ministers on 16 January 2026.

The draft bill also contains rules concerning certain aspects that are not included in the e-evidence Directive, and that build on the existing Belgian framework, namely the obligation for each operator to establish a coordination cell.

At the request of the competent authorities, that cell is required to provide electronic communication data.
