Article 126 of the Act of 13 June 2015 on electronic communications, completed by the Royal Decree of 19 September 2013 obliges certain operators to retain identification data, mainly for the benefit of judicial authorities.

In Belgium operators mainly confined themselves to passive infrastructure sharing in spite of BIPT opening the door in the 2012 guidelines. BIPT notes that, in the current situation, with the current technologies, the operators are not really asking for a change in the regulatory rules in favour of shared infrastructure use, a fortiori of spectrum, in addition to what they are already doing today with passive infrastructures. This study takes a look as to what we might expect in the future
