The present protocols entail, on the one hand, that BIPT makes the information at its disposal concerning maritime licences available to the FPS MOB so that it can carry out its tasks regarding law enforcement, piracy and terrorism. To this end, the FPS MOB is given access to BRABO.
On the other hand, an accompanying protocol is also concluded between the FPS MOB and BIPT: BIPT issues maritime licences and operating certificates for ships with a Belgian registration letter. This additional protocol gives BIPT access to the registration certificates managed by FPS MOB. Consequently, BIPT does not have to contact the certificate holders themselves to obtain the said certificates.
