    An application form is available. The aeronautical certificate is offered with charge: €6,41 to pay on the account of BIPT: IBAN BE68 6791 7078 1634 (BIC : PCHQBEBB).

    Do not forget to sign your form!

    You must enclose:

    • the original copy of the certificate of achievement of the exam, issued by the FPS Mobility and Transport or by the competence centre of the aviation unit;
    • the copy of the proof of the payment of €6,41;
    • a recent passport photograph;
    • a copy of both sides of the identity card.

    Please note that the ATCO (Air Traffic Control) licence does not entitle to the operator’s certificate – it is essential that you provide the certificate of achievement of the FPS examination. If you do not have that certificate anymore, you can ask an equivalent document to the FPS. A copy of your PPL, ATPL... does not entitle to the operator’s licence. The ELP is not sufficient either.

    A form is available; please follow the instructions correctly, particularly the requests for documents that are necessary to process your application.

    The authorisation is free.

    Complete applications are processed in the chronological order of their arrival.

    Contacting us is unnecessary; if your file is incomplete, we will ask you to provide us with the missing elements. As soon as you file is processed, you will receive the authorisation via ordinary mail.

  • FAQ

    You can use the form.  Each application for a station authorisation (including a fixed, a mobile and a portable station) entails an application fee of €51,24 except for a station without an operator, for which it amounts to €102,49. A yearly fee of €51,24 is also charged for each type of station.  You can also apply for an additional station authorisation at the same price.

    Except for the automatic packet reporting system (APRS), the application can not relate to a radio amateur station without an operator which is a fixed station ensuring the retransmission of a received signal or transmitting a continuous signal, without the physical presence of a user.

    For a 5th category station, the operator uses the call sign related to his/her operator’s certificate or the authorisation of the operated station.

    The call sign is transmitted following a method which is adapted to the type of emission. If this is not possible, the call sign is transmitted vocally or in telegraphy. In telephony mode, the call sign is pronounced clearly and, if necessary, spelled using the international alphabet. In telegraphy mode, the call sign is communicated in Morse code at the transmission speed used during the contact.

    The call sign is transmitted at least once at the beginning and the end of each emission. When the emission is made of several short messages, the series of emissions is considered as one emission. In the context of an emission or a series of emissions, the call sign is repeated at least every five minutes.

    You must register via a GMDSS examination centre. 

    The practical exam takes place on the equipment used by the candidate during his or her training. 

    There is a €73.39 registration fee, which is non-refundable. 

    In case of an annulment more than one week before the exam or upon presentation of a medical certificate, the registration fee can be moved to another date. 

    To pass, one must obtain 50% of the points for each subject and 60% in total. No exoneration will be granted for the practical part. 

    In case of a re-examination, an exemption is only granted for the theoretical parts for which the candidate obtained 70% or more and if the candidate does so within one year after the original examination. 

    In the event of a re-examination, the practical part must always be redone.

    If you wish to take a level C exam, please enclose the certificate of achievement of a practical test organised by a recognised association.

    Our department will contact you to propose examination dates.

    Please note that you must be at least 12 years old to take an exam.

    Send an e-mail to examen@bipt.be with your last name, first name, postal details (address), your phone number, a copy of both sides of your ID card and a passport-sized photograph (with a white background). There is a €32,03 registration fee, which is non-refundable.

    In case of an annulment more than one week before the exam or upon presentation of a medical certificate, the registration fee can be moved to another date.

    For the SRC exam, you must also enclose an SRC training certificate issued by an approved training centre (link to FAQ3). Attention, it is only valid for one year. After that, the certificate will not be accepted.

    Our department will contact you to propose examination dates. Once your application is registered, you will receive a conformation e-mail mentioning the payment information as well as other information.

    Registration is possible up to two weeks before the examination date, as long as places are available.

    Access to the examination room is only granted upon presentation of your ID card.

    • The VHF examination consists of 20 multiple choice questions about the subject matter covered by the preparation manual for the examination to obtain the radiotelephone operator’s restricted certificate. To pass the exam one has to score 60%. No exemptions are granted on the subject matter.
      If you wish a printed version of the VHF manual, please transfer €5 on the account IBAN BE68 6791 7078 16 34 (BIC: PCHQBEBB) with the communication “VHF Manual” and send a copy of the proof of payment per e-mail to maritime@ibpt.be.
    • The SRC examination consists of 33 multiple choice questions (23 SRC and 10 VHF) about the subject matters covered by the examination programme. To pass the exam one has to score 60% for each subject matter. No exemptions are granted on subject matters.

    Firstly this 

    You can decide to have your number ported immediately or to have it done on a date you agree upon with the new operator.  

    Setting a date can be important if you are still bound by a contract or if there are instalments left on a device. Without an agreement on the porting date you risk having to pay a termination fee to your old operator. 

    One working day  

    Following a visit to your new operator’s store or website or before the porting date set, the new operator checks with the old operator whether everything is technically ready to port the number.  

    After the technical validation the number porting takes one working day at the most.  

    What if there is a delay?  

    If the porting exceeds one working day compared to the date set, you are entitled to a compensation of 3 euros per day of delay. Sometimes the amount is set to 5 euros per day of delay. 

    Always ask your new operator for this compensation. Even though you know or suspect that the problem lies with the old operator.  

    Do this within 6 months following the number porting. 

    In the case of prepaid cards a compensation can be given in the form of extra call credit.  

  • FAQ

    Fixed-term or permanent? 

    Check whether you have a permanent contract or not: this is also specified on your invoice.

    An operator is not allowed to charge anything for the termination of a contract

    • If you have a permanent contract;
    • If your fixed-term contract started at least six months ago.

     

    You have acquired a device by way of a conditional sale?

    Good to know: If you have acquired a free or bargain price device (e.g. a mobile phone or a tablet) from your operator, he can demand an extra compensation. Even if you have signed a permanent contract. Or if you do not cancel the contract before six months have passed.  

    hat extra compensation must not exceed the value stated in a repayment table annexed to the contract. 

    If you look in that table at the month you are in you can see what extra compensation is due.

    After 24 months an operator is not allowed to charge any compensation for the device anymore.

    The basis of the calculation that the operator should have made for you is a monthly depreciation of the device. Each month, until month 24 the same amount should be subtracted from the residual value of that device. 

    We illustrate this below in case of a permanent contract.

    You have entered into a permanent contract. When you signed the contract, you “bought” the device for € 1.

    The repayment table annexed to the contract is shown below:

    You decide to terminate the contract after 8 months: the operator can then ask a compensation of € 160.

    In case of a fixed-term contract your operator has to compare the device's residual value calculated as mentioned above with the remaining subscription fees until the end of the contract (for consumers this does not exceed 2 years).

    If this balance of subscription fees is lower than the value obtained through the monthly depreciation, the operator may charge only the remaining subscription fees and not the entire residual value of the device.
