According to Article 8, and the followings of the Act of 17 January 2003 on the status of the regulator of the Belgian postal and telecommunications sectors, a Consultative Committee on Postal Services by the Federal Public Service Economy, SMEs, Self-employed and Energy has been established.
The composition and functioning conditions of the Consultative Committee on Postal Services are laid down by royal decree deliberated within the Council of Ministers. The King can provide for the representation of the Communities and Regions.
The Consultative Committee members are appointed by the minister.
The Consultative Committee for postal services is competent in giving recommendations on any matter concerning the postal sector to the minister or the Institute. La Poste commits itself to regularly update and publish the Consumer Charter according to the adjustments to its offer, using the elements of assessment of the Consultative Committee.
The Consultative Committee for postal services publishes an annual report which is sent to the Chamber of Representatives. This report gives an account of the Committee’s activities and contains the recommendations on BIPT.
The recommendations of the Consultative Committee for postal services are collectively adopted. The differing opinions are mentioned below.

The operating costs of the Consultative Committee for postal services are supported by the Institute.
