Radio equipment that is placed on the market and which is intended to be used in Belgium has to be in line with the national frequency plan.

In principle, the party responsible for placing radio equipment on the market has to notify BIPT of its intention to do so in advance.

This notification obligation does not apply to radio equipment that uses frequency bands the use of which is harmonised throughout the Community. Examples of applications that use frequency bands the use of which is harmonised throughout the Community are GSM, DECT and ERMES.

The Frequency Allocation Table is published on the BIPT website. All radio equipment placed on the market in Belgium and which is intended to be used in Belgium has to be in conformity with the Belgian Frequency Allocation Table.

Military frequency bands and bands allocated to aviation and navigation services have to be taken into account.

The R&TTE Directive, 99/5/EC, does not apply to equipment mentioned in Annex 1 to the Directive. The frequency bands within which the equipment mentioned in annex 1 operates is clearly indicated in the Frequency Allocation Table.

The bands for which no information is available as a consequence of military use are clearly indicated. These bands are intended for equipment that is exclusively used for activities relating to national defence. BIPT grants no licences in these bands. Furthermore, civil applications are never exempted from licences in these bands.
