Cordless telephones

Range of application

In Belgium the following types of cordless telephones are permitted:

  • CT1+

This generation of analogue cordless telephones operates in the 885-887 MHz / 930-932 MHz bands. CT1+ equipment must no longer be marketed for use in Belgium as from 25/12/2004. After that date the frequencies concerned will still be reserved for CT1+ use for another five years. During that period an interference-free operation of CT1+equipment will be ensured as much as possible. As of 26/12/2009 other radio systems may be introduced into these bands and therefore CT1 + equipment can no longer be guaranteed to operate free of interference. Use of that equipment will still be allowed provided that it does not interfere with other radio systems.

See in that regard the Decision of 25 November 2004 of the BIPT Council on marketing and using cordless CT1+ telephones.

  • CT2

This generation of digital cordless telephones operates in the 864-868 MHz band. It is BIPT’s intention to continue to allow this generation for a limited period of time. We refer to the evolution at international level (see also the results of the DSI phase III of CEPT), where the decision has been made to gradually clear the band in favour of Short Range Devices.

BIPT has now decided that no CT2 equipment may be marketed as from 25/12/2004.

  • DECT (Digital European Cordless Telephone)

This generation is regarded as Europe’s cordless telephone. The 1880-1900 MHz band will continue to be assigned to this application. There are no plans to assign this band to other applications.
