International Telecommunication Union (ITU)

ITU is an intergovernmental organisation in which the public and private sectors collaborate to realise developments in telecommunications and harmonisation in telecommunications policy in member states. Normatively, ITU-T coordinates the development of systems and technologies that form the new worldwide information infrastructure. With respect to radio communication ITU-R is responsible for guaranteeing that all radio communications services make rational, justified, efficient and economical use of the frequency spectrum, conducting studies and adopting recommendations on radio matters. The task of the Telecommunication Development Sector (ITU-D) is to facilitate and stimulate the development of telecommunications worldwide through the provision, organisation and coordination of activities of technical cooperation and assistance.

Participation of BIPT :
- in the Plenipotentiary Conference;
- in the Administrative Council (as an observer);
- in the World Radiocommunication Conference as well as its preparatory conferences;
- in the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly;
- in the World Telecommunication Policy Forum.
